A tech pack may include drawings, measurements, construction, bill of materials, artwork, labels and packaging. A specification sheet may be one part of it or the main document for a simple hijab.

Document

Possible scope

Use

Specification sheet

Defined product requirements and references

Quotation, sample, production and QC

Tech pack

May combine specs, drawings, BOM and artwork

Broader product-development control

Approved sample

Physical result and attributes difficult to describe

Used with—not instead of—the written spec

Why Buyers Need Written Specifications

They reduce wrong fabric, dimensions, color, artwork, labels, packaging and reorder drift while giving quotation, sample, production and QC one reference.

Do Not Use Chat Messages as the Only Specification

WhatsApp and email help discussion, but approved requirements belong in one controlled document. Fragmented messages create missing attachments, conflicts and obsolete instructions.

Document Control Comes First

Record document title, product code, SKU, version, revision date, status, prepared by and approver where appropriate. The specification itself needs version control.

Product Code and SKU

Product code may identify a family; SKU may distinguish fabric, color, size, design and packaging version. Systems differ, but codes must stay consistent.

Product Name, Type and Shape

Record a name, type and rectangular, square or other approved format. Do not use a marketing name as the only identifier.

Fabric Name and Reference

Avoid vague terms such as “premium chiffon.” State category, approved reference and supplier fabric code where available.

Fiber Composition

Record verified fiber names and percentages from reliable supply information. Never estimate composition.

Fabric Construction

Record woven, knit, surface type or other relevant construction only when known; do not invent data to make the sheet look technical.

Fabric Weight or GSM

Where critical, record target or approved GSM, measurement reference and tolerance only if agreed. No universal hijab GSM or tolerance applies.

Surface and Hand Feel

Softness, texture, sheen, matte or brushed feel are better tied to an approved fabric or sample than described only as “premium.”

Product Shape and Finished Dimensions

Record finished length and width, not cut size alone. Cut size and finished size are different. Use the hijab sizes and dimensions guide.

Measurement Method

Define lay-flat condition, stretched or relaxed state, measurement points, edge inclusion and unit. “180 × 70 cm” can remain ambiguous without method.

Dimensional Tolerance

Record tolerance only when agreed for the fabric, construction and finishing. ±1 cm or ±2 cm is not a universal hijab standard.

Edge Finish and Stitching

Specify rolled hem, narrow hem, overlock, intentional raw edge or other finish; add edge width, stitch appearance, thread color and visual reference where relevant.

Marketing Color Name vs Internal Color Code

“Desert Rose” can face customers, but production and inventory need an internal code and reference.

Pantone or Physical Color Reference

Record Pantone where applicable, physical swatch and approved sample ID. Pantone assists communication but cannot replace final physical approval. See Pantone color matching for hijabs.

Color Role

Core, carryover, seasonal or test can be a merchandising field, not the technical color standard.

Printed Hijab Artwork

Record file name, exact version, method if confirmed, repeat, placement, scale, border and orientation. Never write “use latest artwork.” See the printed hijab artwork guide.

Artwork File and Placement

Use filename, version, date and approval status; annotate full-bleed, placed, repeated or bordered designs and their direction.

Logo Specification

Record logo file and version, size, color, position, orientation and application method when confirmed.

Brand Label

Define type, material, dimensions, artwork, placement and attachment. A brand label is not the care/composition label.

Care and Composition Label

Record verified composition, care instructions and destination-specific information where applicable; legal requirements must be checked for the target market.

Etiqueta colgante

If used, record size, artwork, material, barcode, SKU and attachment. Not every hijab needs one.

Packaging Specification

State retail-pack type, material, dimensions, artwork, logo, barcode, SKU, insert and closure. “Custom packaging” is insufficient. See custom hijab packaging.

Packaging Artwork Version

Record filename, version, approval date and dieline where applicable.

Folded Dimensions

Record where logistics needs them. Finished dimensions and folded dimensions are not the same.

Individual Pack and Export Packing

Separate consumer packaging from shipping layers. Where required, record individual pack, inner grouping, pieces per master carton, carton marks and version using the export packing guide.

Performance Requirements

Include only relevant pilling, dimensional change, colorfastness, opacity, stretch or recovery requirements. Do not force every test into every product.

Test Method and Acceptance Criteria

Test item, method, result and acceptance criterion are different fields. The specification defines the requirement before testing where possible; “pass test” is insufficient. See hijab fabric testing.

Opacity Requirement

If important, use an agreed reference, sample and inspection method rather than only “not transparent.” No universal opacity standard is claimed.

Stretch and Recovery

For jersey, knit or stretch fabrics, record stretch and recovery separately.

Shrinkage or Dimensional Change

Where required, define method, condition and acceptance requirement; do not invent a shrinkage percentage.

Colorfastness

State the relevant type—wash, rubbing, perspiration, light or water where appropriate—and acceptance requirement, not simply “good.”

Approved Sample Reference

Record sample ID, version and approval date. The written specification and approved physical reference work together. Use the sample-approval checklist.

Physical Reference vs Written Specification

Written fields define measurable requirements; a sample supports hand feel, drape, color, surface and construction. Neither replaces the other for every attribute.

Quality-Control Requirements

Record inspection item, reference, agreed tolerance and defect classification where defined. QC checks output against the approved specification; it does not create the specification. See the wholesale QC checklist.

Critical, Major and Minor Requirements

If the project uses defect classes, document their definitions. Do not invent NoorSilk classifications.

Sample Approval Status

Use clear states such as pending, revision required or approved—not “probably OK.”

Revision History

Track version, date, field changed, previous and new requirement, reason, requester, approver and status. Never silently overwrite the approved record.

Mark Obsolete Versions

Archive old files as obsolete and prevent their production use while retaining traceability.

Supplier and Buyer Copies

Before production, confirm both parties hold the identical current approved file and referenced attachments.

Using the Specification for Quotations

A consistent scope makes supplier quotes more comparable. Use it with the supplier quotation comparison.

Using It for Samples, Production and QC

The same controlled requirements should guide development, written revisions, final approval, manufacturing and inspection.

Using It for Reorders

Retrieve the approved spec, sample, color reference, artwork, labels, packaging and revision history. “Same as last order” is not a complete instruction; connect it to hijab reorder planning.

One Sheet per Product or per SKU?

There is no universal answer. A simple product may use one master specification plus an SKU variation table; complex styles may need separate documentation.

Master Specification + SKU Variation Table

The master stores shared attributes; the variation table stores color, size, artwork, barcode and packaging differences.

Does a Hijab Need a Bill of Materials?

A BOM may list fabric, thread, labels, tags, packaging and inserts. A simple product can use a concise material list instead of a complex apparel BOM.

Supplier Material Codes and Internal References

Record supplier codes where available, but maintain brand-controlled internal references.

Barcode and Inventory Data

Record SKU, barcode or GTIN where applicable, color code, size and channel without turning the article into a barcode-registration guide.

Photos, Diagrams and Annotations

Add flat lays, measurement points, edge details, label/logo/print placement and packaging. Arrows and labels clarify positions, but images do not replace text and values.

Common Specification-Sheet Mistakes

Using photos or marketing fabric names alone.

Missing composition, finished dimensions or measurement method.

Using marketing color names as production references.

Writing “same as sample”
